About the Steelheads
The Minnesota Wheelchair Rugby Club (MWRC), also known as the Minnesota Steelheads, is an adaptive sports team based out of Courage Kenny Rehab Institute in Golden Valley, Minnesota. We’ve been around for over two decades and consistently place in the top 5 at the national tournament (though we should place 1st).
What is Wheelchair Rugby?
Played on a basketball court with four on a side, it’s a fast, full contact, high-scoring game that borrows from rugby, basketball and ice hockey. All players are classified as quadriplegics. Some were born disabled, but most came to the game after an accident or illness knocked their lives sideways.
